Another Uyghur refugee dies after 9 years in Thailand detention centre

Human rights groups are urging Thai authorities as soon as more to finish forced extended detention for Uyghur refugees following the dying of a Uyghur man who spent 9 years inside a detention centre in Bangkok, Thailand.
Billion , a 40 year previous Uyghur refugee from Xinjiang in China, died of suspected liver failure at Bangkok’s Suan Phlu Immigration Centre (IDC) on Friday, stories the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) and Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP).
He is the second Uyghur from his group to die on the IDC prior to now two months and the fifth Uyghur detained in Thailand to die since 2018, raising the alarm again that Uyghur refugees in Thailand are not supplied with enough residing circumstances or adequate entry to healthcare.
UHRP reviews that Mettohti was detained on the IDC after illegally entering Thailand on March thirteen, 2014. He was certainly one of 450 Uyghur males, ladies, and children who fled China and were detained by Thai authorities that year.

“He was coughing and vomiting blood, he couldn’t eat. A doctor on the IDC examined him however stated his situation was regular.”
Aziz was finally taken to the hospital when he collapsed however died shortly after arrival. The dying certificate attributed his demise to pneumonia. Both Aziz and Mettothi have been transferred to the IDC in July 2022 and died there.
The WUC and UHRP are calling on the Thai government as soon as extra to launch the 50 Uyghurs still detained instantly and permit them to apply for asylum or present them with resettlement decisions. The groups urge Thai authorities to avoid sending detained Uyghurs again to China (nonrefoulement).
