Following its bulletins of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has further indicated that it is going to rely fairly heavily on industry to ship on the most important challenges faced by our economies and societies in Europe. This is particularly the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and global competitiveness, in addition to the necessity to overcome the crisis provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is basically building on the aptitude of European industry to design and produce the constructing blocks of the twin green and digital transition. At the same time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that does not at all times support the freedom and flexibility wanted for firms to grow and compete globally.
The European technology industries, and specifically our pumps, compressors, faucets and valves sectors, have for a very lengthy time thought-about the enhancement of their global competitiveness inside the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of energy efficiency and ecolabel rules. In parallel, digitalisation has provided elevated alternatives and brought new challenges, including debates on the suitable regulatory degree (sharing of business information, synthetic intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce international competitors, require that public authorities and industry within the EU work increasingly extra closely to design and deploy strategies that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This will be the topic of the initial debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which is ready to convey together key coverage makers from the three EU coverage establishments in command of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements enjoyed, and challenges still faced, by these three key sectors of business.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory landscape throughout Europe, and indeed the entire world, becomes ever extra advanced, the burden on business solely will increase. It due to this fact falls to sector specific trade organisations, corresponding to Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to establish and advise on these technical and coverage points most relevant to their respective sectors. In our explicit arena, that relates, in fact, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump associated gear – a huge and essential subset of business, given the width and breadth of pump purposes.
Against this backdrop, one of many main issues when figuring out the core themes for the joint conference was to hold up a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to spotlight how, together with the importance for companies to address technical elements impacting their daily business operations, they consider the constructive position of industry in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all of the sessions could have a technical theme matching essentially the most acceptable UN SDG, and with illustration from the European Commission together with technical experts from trade and/or analysis institutes, they’ll every be reflective of the present legislative terrain, because it pertains to pumps and pumping systems in the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)
Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
The restriction of use of supplies and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
The regulatory and legislative panorama throughout Europe is turning into increasingly complicated, and business, in all its guises, must be aware and ready for what is coming. By engaging with those trade organisations that characterize your finest interests, you can maintain abreast of all of the compliance developments as they affect your small business and the areas during which you operate.
Europump’s 2022 Annual Meeting & Joint Conference will happen in Brussels on 9–11 May 2022 at the NH Collection Grand Sablon, Rue Bodenbroek – Bodenbroekstraat, 2, B-1000 Brussels, Belgium.
